L'Oncle Ho Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into L'Oncle Ho Restaurant feels like entering a cherished neighborhood nook where time quietly unfolds. The pace is unhurried, inviting, with a modest bustle that quickly settles into a comfortable rhythm. Here, the hum of everyday conversations mingles with the warm greetings exchanged behind the counter, creating an atmosphere that’s equally familiar and unpretentious.
This is no grand stage for culinary showmanship, but rather a steadfast refuge for those who appreciate food meant to nourish both body and memory. The modest buffet offers thoughtful selections—flavors rooted in tradition and balanced with care—where the spicy warmth of Szechuan dishes shares the spotlight with comforting soups and gently prepared vegetables. Each plate is a quiet promise of consistency and honest satisfaction, a reminder of home-style cooking that doesn’t try to dazzle but simply delivers.
What lingers most is a sincere sense of welcome. The staff, clearly dedicated to both the craft and the community they serve, move through the space with friendly efficiency, attentive without hurry. Patrons of all ages find a place here—not for extravagant dining, but for returning visits where simple pleasures and familiar faces intertwine.
In a city where shiny new spots often steal the spotlight, L'Oncle Ho quietly honors decades of genuine connection, offering a rare kind of comfort that comes from knowing some things, and places, remain reliably warm and welcoming.

I have been eating here pretty much since they opened, when I was just a kid. Is it fancy? No. Is it expensive? No. Is it haute cuisine? No. But it is satisfying, affordable, not an enormous buffet of hundreds of things you'll never touch. Their food has been consistent for decades and I still go there regularly for comfort food.

We’ve been going to a very large, very expensive chain buffet restaurant for years. My uncle invited us to try L’Oncle Ho and I didn’t expect much when I walked in, but OMG the food was amazing. That place has been around for 50 years. My grandparents used to go there. It’s a small, but delicious buffet. And the service was amazing. The employees were friendly, kind, super nice to my children. We live in Barrhaven but plan to go back to Gatineau next time we want Chinese buffet!

Review for pick up. We have never ate inside. We order and pick up. Very good quality and quantity for the price. We tried several places and always return to oncle ho.

I did not expect much walking in. We were greeted with smile. Small buffet without a lot of choice... But what was there was fantastic! Veg were NOT overcooked, everything was very well prepared and delicious! The lone waitress was busy, but not too busy to be polite and friendly!
